Account salesmen are highly "individualistic" by profile and motivation. Therefore, they may question the effectiveness of teams in the workplace. By using a professional team training simulation (Human Synergistics, Plymouth, MI), participants will have a "hands-on" opportunity to experience the benefits of teamwork over individual effort. Plant modernization requires the justification of new equipment which is best accomplished by focused Teams. Maximizing productivity involves harnessing the talents of multiple departments, disciplines and personalities within an organization. Typically, individuals have diverse personal and departmental goals resulting in frustrated efforts. Since our culture does not teach or reward team interaction we must learn new team-oriented work habits. In this workshop, participants will what is rapidly becoming a new standard in effective management. Simulated "Survival" Synergistic Problem - 1.5 hours Using a professionally published workbook, the participants engage in a simulated, "Life & Death" plane crash set in a remote geographic area. The task involves establishing priorities on existing resources. This makes for an energetic learning experience.
The simulated survival exercise is scored both individually and as a group. The results provide a real education in group abilities. A facilitator will observe the group interaction for the debriefing. Survival Debriefing - 1 hour An in-depth, survival skill debriefing is held, based on information supplied by survival experts. The participants learn what they did right or wrong. A team synergism critique will then discuss the interaction observed in the groups. This forms a basis for dealing with the successes and failures experienced in each group. Team Training Dynamics - 1 hour This is a "Nuts and Bolts" coaching session on how to work together in teams. Syllabus: A professionally published workbook is $6.50 each. Size: The group size is flexible. Room: 4 to 8 people per round or rectangular table is best for group interaction.
